Football with Purpose: A First Year to Remember
The rain may have dampened the day, but it certainly didn’t dampen our purpose!
On Sunday, November 1, The American Legion, Department of Florida, and PROJECT: VetRelief celebrated our inaugural Football with Purpose for Veterans event in partnership with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
While Mother Nature had other plans, our Legion Family, sponsors, partners, and supporters showed up ready to make the most of the day!
The festivities kicked off at American Legion Post 138, where our American Legion Riders gathered before heading to Raymond James Stadium. Our Riders rolled in with enthusiasm, joining fellow supporters at our tailgate for food, music, camaraderie, and a shared commitment to Florida’s veterans.
From the beginning, our vision was about more than football. We were focused on introducing new audiences to PROJECT: VetRelief’s mission, strengthening community relationships, and creating meaningful connections that could extend well beyond game day.
Thanks to the incredible collaboration of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, our group was offered some truly special game-day opportunities. Although conditions forced the cancellation of the American flag presentation and postgame field experience, a few lucky participants still had the honor of carrying the Buccaneers flag during opening ceremonies! We’re grateful to the Bucs organization for working with us to make our first event special.
A HUGE thank you to our generous sponsors, who believed in our vision and stepped up to support this first-time event. We’re equally grateful to Post 138, our American Legion Riders, volunteers, strategic partners, and everyone who came out to be part of it!
Like any inaugural event, we learned a few lessons and discovered opportunities to make the experience even better. We’re grateful for the generosity and enthusiasm that brought our vision to life, proud of what we accomplished together, and excited to build on this experience for an even better event next year!
